About
Many years ago I super-glued 6 baby food jars together so I could save all of my coins. Canada has 6 regular coins: penny, nickel, dime, quarter, loonie, twoonie (the 50 cent piece can be used as a regular coin, but rarely is). My purpose at the time was just to save up some coin. Then one day about 6 years ago I was looking through my coins and realized that I had coins from many different years. For fun, I started a collection, and it’s just grown from there.
My main purpose is to get a Canadian coin from each year. I’m trying not to buy any coins. Of course I’m going to have to buy all of the very old coins, but it’s amazing the way old coins still show up in circulation. For instance, a couple of years ago I saw a coin on the ground and picked it up. It was a dime from around 1930 (I can’t remember the exact date). Another time a person staying at a hotel that I work at was trying to use some really old coins. The Front Desk staff called me and I bought about $30 worth of nickels, dimes, and quarters that were all at least 40 years old.
I plan on using this blog to post about recent finds, new coins, and more. I hope you enjoy the site!
